Darlena: Charleston, SC, United States; Hi there, I am about to embark on a 3 week discovery of foods, language, peoples, community, vineyards, olive groves, and diversity...all in a country of my ancestry...Italy. In America, I grew up in an old Italian neighborhood where everyone hugged and kissed and spoke loudly with gestures, and lived large with family. Things are different in my life now, of course, so I am very excited to travel to the area where my grandfather grew up...the Abruzzo region of Italy. Inherent in these travels, I hope to glean information from farmers and families and schools in the way they feed and nourish the minds and bodies of the future...our children. Slow Food Charleston has enabled me to do this as a SC delegate at the International Food Conference in Torino Italy...then on to living and working on an organic farm in Southern Italy.
